Big 12 early signing period grades
With the early signing period over and the class rankings set, here's a team-by-team breakdown of the 2014 basketball recruiting classes in the Big 12, complete with final grades for all 10 teams. Final class grades for the ACC, American, Big East and Big Ten are already out.
Coach Bill Self and his staff just reload every year. This year, they add two five-star, top-10 recruits. Kelly Oubre (Richmond, Texas/Findlay Prep) is one of the most athletic players in the country (if not the most). The lefty is a monster in transition and routinely posterizes opponents. He has really improved as a shooter and should be an impact weapon for the Jayhawks immediately. Cliff Alexander (Chicago/Currie) is the No. 1 power forward prospect in the country. There is not a more athletic big man in the class. What sets Alexander apart is his relentless motor coupled with unique athletic ability for someone his size (6-foot-8, 225 pounds). He has been working on his perimeter skills and should develop into a solid midrange jump shooter down the road. Both are possible one-and-done players who should help keep the Jayhawks atop the Big 12.
