Sims is and effective cover corner demonstrating the ability to play both zone and man coverage. Has the minimum size and athleticism for the cornerback position at the major level of competition; will benefit from a growth spurt. This guy is a tough customer who plays bigger than his physical size; does a good job wrapping up when tackling in space and has no problem taking on bigger running backs and receivers. We feel his tackling skills will be put to good use as a special teams coverage defender; is very productive returning both punts and kickoffs; flashes a burst along with the lateral quickness need to make defenders miss in space; once in the open we see the straight line playing speed needed to get into the end zone. His height will present a challenge when forced to man up on big receivers. However this prospect shows the ability to press and run with speed off the line; does a good job leveraging the deep outside route and peeling off to locate and play the ball in the air; his agility and foot quickness make it difficult to separate when coming out of the final break. Is effective as a high, low zone defender; demonstrates good route awareness along with the intelligence needed to play disciplined in his area; is quick to break up and separate receivers from the ball on short/medium throws. Will line up at both the safety and corner positions; shows the willingness to come up and support the run inside and off the edge. This guy doesn't back down from contact. Sims does not appear to be an immediate impact player at the BCS level of play however if a red shirt year isn't deemed necessary early situational playing time on defense and special teams is a possibility.
