Possesses excellent height and weight for the tackle position at the BCS level and his long frame should be capable of supporting additional bulk over time. We like his athleticism, however there is the need to become a more physical player by improving explosion and overall playing strength.
His arm length and nimble feet should be assets in pass protection. All aspects of footwork and hand use will need to be improved upon. We see the foot quickness and agility needed to recover when on an island.
Playing out of a three-point stance we see the flexibility, balance and agility needed to play on his feet. Shows the ability to adjust his feet to quick movement in tight spaces. When drive blocking we see the need to improve first-step quickness and at times, is late getting off the ball with the snap count. Flashes the ability to establish a good initial fit. Plays with the base and leg drive needed to sustain one-on-one drive blocks. Takes good angles to linebackers while showing the ability to play on his feet in space.
Shows good toughness and is an effort player who works to finish blocks. Has the athleticism to reach for leverage provided he gets off the ball on time. Demonstrates the ability to recover and maintain contact.
Ward is a developmental size prospect needing some time and a redshirt year to grow physically while polishing his technical skills. His athleticism and toughness should allow him to eventually compete for starting time at the BCS level.
