Hegarty has the height we like to see for the offensive tackle position at the major level of competition. His frame should allow for growth over time which is necessary for the position. This is a very tough guy who is aggressive and consistently works to dominate his opponent. We like the upper body, hand, arm and shoulder strength which allows him to control defensive linemen. Shows good overall flexibility in a three point stance; possesses good agility and balance with the initial quickness to handle inside and change of direction moves. Plays with a flat back and flashes explosion when drive blocking. Displays a measured first step which allows him to get his hands on defenders and walk them off the line of scrimmage; very good at maintaining contact at the 2nd level; demonstrates the ability to gain leverage when asked to front side block. We see a player able to run well in space, get on linebackers while looking to make a second block downfield. Shows good ability in pass protection although his run game production is further advanced. Flashes good quick set prowess, has long arms and quick hands; although his initial punch, location and extension could and should improve as this guy is always looking to re-locate his hands inside, and once he latches onto a rusher his playing strength prevails. Demonstrates the athleticism to bend and slide his feet however his ability to get to the deep set point will need to improve. This player's playing strength, toughness and determination to dominate opponent's shows up loud and clear. Hegarty has the tools to become a long term starter at the next level of play.
