Rome reminds us a lot of 2010 tight end prospect Xavier Grimble in that both have the size you look for in a tight end with the ability to be active in the passing game and the foundation to develop into a productive blocker. Rome has good height and bulk and as a high school prospect is in the neighborhood of ideals you want for the position. He is active in the passing game and can be a weapon. He displays soft hands and seems to effortlessly pluck the ball from the air. He also displays the ability to consistently extend his arms and catch the ball away from his frame. He runs good routes and can find the soft spot in zone coverage. He has good straight-line speed for his size and can stretch the field vertically. His straight-line speed is a little better, at this point then his burst out of his breaks. He does though with his size present a tough match-up for linebackers. He is good after the catch. Not overly fluid or elusive, but has good feet and balance and if you come at him with your head down or try and arm tackle him he will make you miss. He displays the ability to be able to flex-out and be a productive part of a spread offense, but can also play from an in-line position and fit well in a more pro-style offense. He needs to keep developing his game as a blocker, but displays the tools to be able to be a productive in-line blocker. He makes good contact and gets hand placement. Uses his size and displays good strength and will move his feet and can create some push. He does need to though work to get his hips under him and close the gap between him and defenders to help him maintain blocks and also make his live easier. Rome is a good tight end prospect.
