A new kind of Luck-Barkley debate
Stanford's QB is the consensus No. 1 pick, but USC's may be having a better year.
Steve Muench and Kevin Weidl of Scouts Inc. break down all kinds of tape on the nation's top college players in evaluating prospects for the NFL draft. But they don't always agree. So we've asked them to take sides in evaluating which players, positions groups and teams they like better, in a series of head-to-head debates.
Question: Which QB is having the better season, Andrew Luck or Matt Barkley?
WEIDL: First, let's make one thing clear: Luck is far and away the top quarterback on the 2012 NFL draft board, and clearly the No. 1 overall prospect in the nation. No one is here to argue otherwise. However, looking strictly at this week's Stanford Cardinal-USC Trojans game, you could very well argue that Barkley is more valuable to his team as a collegiate quarterback. Barkley is playing the best football of his career and doing more with less compared to Luck, and to this point USC has faced more quality opponents than Stanford. Luck has the better supporting cast and reaps all the benefits of that.
