With so much talk about head-coaching movement in this time of changing schools and gigs, we sometimes lose sight of key assistant coaching losses. Granted, some of those -- like Kentucky's Mark Stoops and Texas Tech's Kliff Kingsbury -- have been elevated to their first head-coaching jobs. But what about the void they'll leave behind?
Here are five assistant coaches from this past season whose moves could have a serious impact on their former programs.
1. Mark Stoops
People forget where FSU's defense was before Stoops arrived. In 2009, the Seminoles gave up 6.73 yards per play and ranked 108th in the country in total defense. In Stoops' three seasons, FSU gave up 4.34 yards per play -- second among Football Bowl Subdivision teams. The Seminoles ranked fourth in total D in 2011 and second in 2012. That's, cough, "marked" improvement. (Sorry.)
