Anthony Rizzo was acquired in the Adrian Gonzalez deal last December from the Boston Red Sox and will become the first prospect from that blockbuster trade to make it to the major leagues. In his career, he has had to overcome Hodgkin’s lymphoma and now is cancer free. He hit 25 home runs last year between Salem (A) and Portland (AA) in the Red Sox’s farm system with 100 RBIs and an .814 OPS. He hits the ball with power to all fields and is potentially a long-term Gold Glove-caliber defensive player at first base.
This year at Tucson (AAA) he was hitting .365 with 16 home runs, 63 RBIs and a 1.159 OPS in 52 games and 232 plate appearances at the time of promotion.
