Day 1 of the 2014 MLB draft had some teams making surprise picks, while others remained predictable. Who made those questionable picks? Who filled some needs? Who took the best gamble?

With the first two rounds in the books, here's what those around the industry had to say about the first day's activities.

Best pick: Minnesota Twins: Nick Gordon | SS | No. 5 overall
Gordon has the best makeup and instincts in this draft, and like his favorite player Derek Jeter, has the best professionalism and respect for the game of all the players taken. Gordon is a solid defender with range to both sides. His bat is quick and straight to the ball and he has instincts to steal bases. His power is going to come and he has a chance to be an All-Star caliber player.

He is also the most fundamentally sound player on the board. For the Twins, who already had Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano, to add Gordon gives them a trio to build around for years to come and like the Cubs and Astros, provides a bright future ahead of them not only on the field but in the clubhouse, too.
