G Fiume/Getty ImagesRuben Amaro Jr. will make a deal, but it's unclear if it will be to rebuild or reload. We've already seen a number of general managers make some major moves before the trade deadline. Texas Rangers GM Jon Daniels acquired Matt Garza from the Chicago Cubs, and Dan Duquette improved the Baltimore Orioles' rotation and bullpen with the acquisitions of Scott Feldman and Francisco Rodriguez, respectively. GM Ben Cherington added Matt Thornton to Boston's pen, while Dodgers GM Ned Colletti brought Ricky Nolasco aboard.
Several other GMs have been noticeably quiet, but that won't last for long. Here are five GMs you can count on making a deal before Wednesday's deadline. For "buyers," I have listed possible trade targets, while I've listed trade pieces for deadline "sellers."
Ruben Amaro, Philadelphia Phillies
Amaro has been both a buyer and a seller at the deadline in recent seasons; this year, he’s still unsure whether he’s buying or selling, but one thing fans can count on is him being a trader.
