Breaking down Sunday's MLB matchups 

A quick breakdown of each of Sunday's three MLB postseason games:

Detroit Tigers at New York Yankees

Max Scherzer has struggled against Curtis Granderson, Russell Martin and Mark Teixeira -- giving up three hits to each of them in his career -- but Jorge Posada has been the Yankee who has hurt him the most with a couple of home runs and four RBIs. Alex Rodriguez, who was 0-for-5 in Game 1, will have his work cut out for him against Scherzer, as Rodriguez is 0-for-8 against him lifetime. If Scherzer pitches like he did on May 4, when he shut down New York with nine strikeouts and only four hits in eight innings, the Tigers could win. But like his inconsistent season, Scherzer is just as capable of giving up six runs in five innings, like he did on April 3.

The Yankees’ bullpen is well rested, and the most important matchup in this game could involve Boone Logan in the sixth inning before Joe Girardi goes to Rafael Soriano, David Robertson and Mariano Rivera to finish the game off. Girardi could use Logan against Alex Avila or Jhonny Peralta -- who are a combined 0-for-6 against Logan -- or he might use Phil Hughes or Cory Wade against Miguel Cabrera or Victor Martinez.

Freddy Garcia will have to be careful in pitching to Delmon Young and Cabrera. Young has two home runs and a double against Garcia in 10 at-bats, while Cabrera is 9-for-23 lifetime against Garcia with three home runs. Both like the ball over the plate, and both are capable of pounding Garcia's fastball.
