After practicing with the Florida Panthers for the first time Tuesday, goalie Tim Thomas said all the right things about appreciating his time with the Boston Bruins, maintaining a harmonious relationship with Panthers goalie Jacob Markstrom, and hoping to help his new team reach the playoffs. Attending camp on a professional tryout contract, Thomas is expected to win a permanent deal with the Panthers.

In house, the folks at Hockey Prospectus take a look at the Anaheim Ducks in their Summer Skate series. And Craig Custance examines the challenges facing Philadelphia Flyers coach Peter Laviolette.

Even though head coach Mike Yeo is pretty smitten with Nino Niederreiter, the 21-year-old isn't a shoo-in to make the Minnesota Wild roster out of camp. A start in the AHL for Niederreiter may still be in the cards.

White to hit FA market

If it wasn't already obvious, the Detroit Red Wings are nearly confirming they won't re-sign defenseman Ian White this summer. As reported by MLive.com, Red Wings coach Mike Babcock essentially made it official on Friday.

Defensemen Carlo Colaiacovo and Ian White are in position to watch yet another playoff game from the press box. Judging from Wednesday's skate, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock will likely stick with the same corps of six blueliners from Game 4 (3-2 OT win over the Anaheim Ducks).

Wings shuffle power-play units

The Detroit Red Wings power play will have a slightly different look all around for Tuesday's contest with the Nashville Predators. According to MLive.com's Ansar Khan, coach Mike Babcock did some shuffling during Monday's practice with the intent of playing Mikael Samuelsson on the point on the top unit with defenseman Niklas Kronwall. Beyond that, the head coach still has some decisions to make.

UPDATE: Seriously, defensemen are dropping like flies in Detroit. According to Ansar Khan of MLive.com, Ian White will miss the next two to three weeks following surgery on his lacerated thigh. White went under the knife Wednesday morning.
