Sens set to demote defenseman?
By Victoria Matiash
This is the healthiest the defensive corps for the Ottawa Senators has been all season. However, with Sergei Gonchar and Mike Lundin ready to re-join the lineup, eight may be more than enough as far as active blueliners are concerned.
According to Sportsnet's Ian Mendes, Patrick Wiercioch and Mark Borowiecki are pegged to be healthy scratches for Thursday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes. When asked if Borowiecki is as the likeliest candidate for demotion to the AHL, Mendes replied in the affirmative.
"That would make sense, because I can't see them carrying 8 defensemen here ..."
Wiercioch could still see a fair bit of action as the Senators' seventh defenseman. Not only as injury substitute, but fill-in for Benoit or Lundin on occasion.
While Gonchar missed the last two games with the flu, Lundin (broken finger) has yet to play this year.
