Isles' odd D-man out

By Victoria Matiash

Unless the New York Islanders lose another player to injury within the next couple of weeks, the team will have to move a body to make roster room for the return of defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky. Even with Radek Martinek on injured reserve, the Islanders are at the 23-man limit once forward Josh Bailey returns to competitive action (this week, maybe).

So who's it going to be? Of potential candidates F Colin McDonald, F Casey Cizikas, D Joe Finley, and D Thomas Hickey, Kevin Schultz of Islanders Point Blank suggests the 25-year-old claimed off waivers from the Buffalo Sabres stands the best chance of losing his roster spot.

"... The likely candidate is Finley, as he hasn't played in almost two weeks. He was last seen in Boston on January 25th. But Cizikas doesn't require waivers, so if the Islanders don't want to risk losing a player he would be the one to go. But with so many defenders hanging around and Finley obtained for nothing, should that really be a concern? No, it shouldn't ..."

Moving a defenseman makes more sense with Martinek in the mix.
