Belanger's foot injury
By Tom Carpenter
Eric Belanger blocked a slap shot by Erik Johnson in the first period of Saturday's game. He hobbled off the ice at the time but returned to finish the contest. Unfortunately, he knew that he had sustained an injury, so he didn't remove his skate for fear that it would quickly swell up enough that he wouldn't be able to get it back over his foot. The end result is that the Edmonton Oilers have placed Belanger on injured reserve, according to Robert Tychkowski of QMI.
It's not clear how long Belanger will be sidelined, but it's safe to assume he will have further testing to determine whether he suffered a fracture or just a bruise. He won't be missed in fantasy circles, because he has failed to score a point and carries a minus-1 rating over eight games.
