Flyers to trade pick(s) for forward?
By Victoria Matiash
UPDATE: It appears the Philadelphia Flyers intend to stand-pat for now -- as far as brokering a trade is concerned.
Offering an update Wednesday, Sam Carchidi suggests the Flyers are willing to ride out Scott Hartnell's injury for the time being.
"SOURCE: Only a slim chance (Flyers) make a deal before Hartnell returns."
Nursing a broken foot, Hartnell is due back sometime in March.
With Wayne Simmonds (concussion) out indefinitely and Scott Hartnell (busted foot) on the injured shelf for another five weeks (or so), the Philadelphia Flyers may look to the trade market to upgrade on offense.
Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer suggests the Flyers would consider moving draft picks in exchange for -- and hopefully re-signing -- such a player in the next couple of months. Candidates include Corey Perry (Anaheim Ducks), Ryan Getzlaf (Ducks), Brenden Morrow (Dallas Stars), Michael Ryder (Stars), Stephen Weiss (Florida Panthers), Alexander Semin (Carolina Hurricanes), David Clarkson (New Jersey Devils), and Jarome Iginla (Calgary Flames).
Much, however, will depend on how well other teams manage over the next few weeks. The Devils -- for instance -- wouldn't dream of moving Clarkson if in playoff contention themselves. It's still too early to comfortably predict who will be selling and who will be buying ahead of early April.
