Smith's opportunity with Stars
By Victoria Matiash
Young Reilly Smith could be in position to enjoy his first real taste of serious minutes with the Dallas Stars this season. The 21-year-old winger has been recalled from the AHL Texas Stars, while Ray Whitney has been placed on injured reserve.
With Whitney on the injured shelf, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News suggests Smith could slide in amongst the Stars' top-six forwards.
(An incorrect reference to Smith's 'season debut' appeared earlier. Apologies for the error.)
Yet to register a point, Smith has averaged under 11 minutes/games in six contests with the NHL Stars this season. The former third-round draft selection (2009) has 11 goals and 16 assists in 38 games for Texas in 2012-13.
