Scott's impact on Sabres

By Doug McIntyre

The Buffalo Sabres were manhandled by the Big Bad Boston Bruins on more than one occasion last year, prompting longtime coach Lindy Ruff to add toughness during the offseason in the form of mammoth (6-foot-8, 275-pound) winger John Scott.

The decision paid dividends Thursday night, when Scott knocked Bruins tough guy Shawn Thornton out in the first period of the Sabres' 7-4 win in Boston. Afterward, Ruff noted that while Scott alone makes his team difficult to push around, he's also brought some swagger to his own locker room, a bonus the coach didn't anticipate.

"John has provided us some team toughness," Ruff told Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News following the victory. "And it’s spilled off into other guys."
