Fallout from Lack injury
By Victoria Matiash
Out for six months after undergoing hip surgery this week, goaltender Eddie Lack won't be available to compete for the Vancouver Canucks until next season. However, that situation should have no bearing on the prospective trade of you-know-who -- according to Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun.
"... Lack's injury should not affect a potential (Roberto) Luongo trade. Even when healthy, Lack was not in Vancouver's plans for this season ... But any potential Luongo trade would likely include a goalie or Vancouver would have to scour the free agent market for one. And whatever goalie the Canucks come up with might have to be here for the rest of this season and possibly next, depending on how Lack rebounds from surgery ..."
Signed with the Canucks through next season (one-way), Lack is likely to have ample opportunity to prove he belongs in the NHL when healthy. Even if the full six months of recovery is required, the 25-year-old Swede should be ready to go by mid-summer.
