Potential Subban suitors
By Luke Lapinski
As we noted yesterday, contract talks between restricted free agent P.K. Subban and the Montreal Canadiens are essentially going nowhere. A trade may still not be the most likely scenario just yet, but it does appear to have become more of a viable option than originally anticipated.
If it does actually come to that, a number of teams would obviously be very interested. The Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers are two clubs that should shock exactly no one as potential suitors in such a scenario. They each have talent up front to do some damage, but are in serious need of top tier blue line help.
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun suggests two more plausible destinations as well. He notes that the New York Rangers would likely make a push to add Subban to their back end if the opportunity arose -- a move that would give them that much more talent on a team that has Stanley Cup aspirations right now. And he also suggests the Winnipeg Jets just might have the assets to be a surprise contender in the race as well, should the gifted young defender become available.
