Proposed date for next All-Star Game

By Victoria Matiash

If the dominoes fall as anticipated, the Columbus Blue Jackets could host the next NHL All-Star Game on Jan. 25, 2015.

But first -- as discussed by Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch -- the league has to figure out how to handle the next three sets of Winter Olympics.

"... Deputy commissioner Bill Daly said the NHL won't award another All-Star Game until it reaches an agreement with the players' association regarding player participation in the 2014 Winter Olympics. During NHL seasons when the Olympics are staged, there is no All-Star Game. The new agreement, an eight-year deal that could extend to 10 years, could encompass three Winter Games: 2014, 2018 and 2022. 'Plans for future All-Star Games will be related to what we decide to do with the Olympics,' Daly said ..."

If Olympic participation usurps the All-Star Game next year, the Blue Jackets would presumably be in line to host the following event. The organization/city lost it's opportunity this year because of the lockout. And that would bring us to the fourth week of January, 2015.
