O'Reilly deal pending? (update)
By Victoria Matiash
UPDATE: Nothing new to report on the Ryan O'Reilly/Colorado Avalanche contract-negotiation front.
But despite the perceived difficulty in reaching a new deal with the young restricted free agent, the Colorado club doesn't seem the least bit interested in trading O'Reilly.
Adrian Dater of the Denver Post:
"Tons of NHL teams calling about O'Reilly. But Avs say they are not dealing him ..."
A new deal between the Colorado Avalanche and Ryan O'Reilly may not be far off.
As discussed by Adrian Dater of the Denver Post, O'Reilly and his KHL squad have "mutually" agreed to terminate his contract. From Dater's point of view, it's not yet clear whether that decision has more to do with the young forward's foot injury, or the prospect of finalizing a new contract with the Avalanche.
Dmitry Chesnokov suggests it's much simpler than that: "... O'Reilly (who is also injured) and his KHL club terminated his contract. He is negotiating a return to the NHL ..."
O'Reilly's agent, Mark Guy, recently dismissed rumors that the restricted free agent is demanding a $5-million annual salary on a short-term deal.
