Datsyuk's chance to play in KHL
By Victoria Matiash
Fans of the Detroit Red Wings can rest assured star forward Pavel Datsyuk is sticking around the NHL because that's truly where he wants to be. MLive.com confirms the general manager for KHL club CSKA Moscow, former NHLer Sergei Fedorov, made Datsyuk an offer of sorts before the three-year, $22.5-million extension was signed in Detroit.
"Unfortunately for us, Pavel extended his contract with Detroit," Fedorov told Russian news outlet R-Sport. "I had a meeting with him a few days before the signing ... We had the chance to get Pavel in a year's time, but as a person who knows what the NHL is all about, I understand perfectly well why he did what he did."
Datsyuk competed for CSKA during the recent NHL lockout. Datsyuk and Fedorov were teammates in Detroit from 2001 until 2003.
