Elias a 'priority' for Devils (update)
By Victoria Matiash
UPDATE: Done. According to Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger, the New Jersey Devils have re-signed Patrik Elias to multi-year deal. (Update: Three-year, $16.5 million deal -- RDS' Renaud Lavoie). Expect the official announcement later today.
*** UPDATE: Rich Chere of The Star-Ledger reports the New Jersey Devils are "very close" to re-signing veteran forward Patrik Elias. And while David Clarkson is expected to test the free agent market, Dainius Zubrus has been locked in with a new three-year, $9.3 million contract.
*** Barring an unanticipated development, UFA-to-be Patrik Elias is expected to re-sign with the New Jersey Devils this summer. According to The Star-Ledger, the re-signing of the 37-year-old forward appears to be a priority for the Devils. GM Lou Lamoriello said so himself.
"We're hopeful with all of them," Lamoriello said. "Patrik has always been a priority. We'll just keep working on it until it's final. I see Patrik, Zubie (Dainius Zubrus), Clarkie (David Clarkson) and Adam (Henrique) as priorities ..."
While Clarkson is expected to attract a lot of attention on the open market, Elias has shown zero interest in playing for another North American squad. First joining the Devils in 1995-96, the veteran has spent his entire NHL career with the Devils.
