Canucks' interest in Tortz
By Victoria Matiash
UPDATE: As per ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun, John Tortorella is expected to be hired as the new head coach of the Vancouver Canucks.
"... Tortorella and the Canucks still need to negotiate a contract, which is why the deal was yet to be completed Friday afternoon. Other candidates such as John Stevens and Scott Arniel were informed they no longer were in the running, sources confirmed ..."
For visual evidence, here's a shot of Tortorella arriving at Vancouver Airport on Friday -- compliments of the Vancouver Province.
*** UPDATE: With Lindy Ruff spoken for (Dallas Stars), there appears to be a frontrunner in what many believe is a two-horse race for the head coaching gig in Vancouver. Sportsnet's Josh Rimer suggests the Vancouver Canucks will "most likely" opt for John Tortorella over John Stevens.
*** UPDATE: The Vancouver Province reports John Tortorella is expected to get a second interview with the Vancouver Canucks this week. Los Angeles Kings assistant coach John Stevens will likley get a second interview as well. At this stage, the hiring of someone other than Tortorella or Stevens would come as a surprise.
*** The Dallas Stars may not be the only NHL club interested in anointing John Tortorella as new head coach. RDS' Renaud Lavoie claims the Vancouver Canucks are also somewhat sweet on the former New York Rangers' bench boss.
"... Canucks and John Tortorella are talking. Is one of the strong candidates to replace Alain Vigneault ..."
Meanwhile, the Rangers are rumored to be keen on Vigneault. If the chips fall in a certain fashion, we could be looking at a swap here. As it stands, the perceived frontrunner for the Canucks' job appears to be John Stevens (current assistant with the Kings).
