O'Reilly's salary demands

By Victoria Matiash

The agent for Ryan O'Reilly claims we've been misinformed when it comes to the young forward's contract demands. Mark Guy told the Denver Post his restricted free agent client is not asking for a $5-million annual salary on a short-term deal.

"It is not accurate to say a player wants X dollars without factoring the term, (and) any suggestion that Ryan is asking for $5 million on a deal similar to (Matt) Duchene is completely inaccurate," Guy said.

After his first three years in the NHL, Duchene signed a two-year, $7-million deal with the Colorado Avalanche.

There's no word on how far apart O'Reilly and the Avalanche remain in ongoing negotiations.
