Karlsson's role with Blackhawks
By Victoria Matiash
Acquiring goaltender Henrik Karlsson via trade with the Calgary Flames, the Chicago Blackhawks are giving up a 2013 seventh-round draft pick for some extra insurance between the pipes.
As discussed by the Chicago Tribune, Karlsson was assigned immediately to the AHL's Rockford IceHogs. If all goes well for the Blackhawks at the NHL level, that's where he'll remain. Otherwise, the 29-year-old is available for recall if Corey Crawford or Ray Emery fall to pieces -- health- or performance-wise.
Karlsson appeared in 26 contests for the Flames in the past two seasons.
