Scrivens taking lead in Toronto?
By Luke Lapinski
Coming into the season, the general thought was that James Reimer would be the top option in goal for Toronto. Well, to be fair, many people actually thought that honor would go to Roberto Luongo, but he's still playing for Vancouver. So, of the goalies currently in place for the Maple Leafs, Reimer seemed to be the more likely solution between the pipes. But Ben Scrivens delivered a strong effort in a quick training camp, played well in an opening night victory over Montreal and now appears to be getting the start again today in a matchup with Buffalo.
Does that mean he's taken over the No. 1 spot? Not necessarily. As we noted on Saturday, there's a good chance the Leafs simply go with a tandem in goal for awhile. That said, this organization, fan base and entire city are starving for a playoff berth, so expect Randy Carlyle to ride the hot hand whenever he can this season. Right now, that's Scrivens. And the longer he can run with that, the tougher he can make it for Reimer to get on the ice.
