Why Nash hasn't scored
When the New York Rangers acquired Rick Nash, they surely did so with the intention of riding his scoring skills deep into the playoffs. Unfortunately, after four games against the Washington Capitals, Nash has failed to score and has just one assist. Nash gives some of the credit for his inability to play a big role on offense to the Caps defense.
“It seems like they’re closing down on me,” said Nash, according to Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record. “I get a lot of space off the wall, but they’re using a winger to come down and block it. I just have to move it more and work for my space.
“They’re shrinking the zone and to beat that I’ve got to use my weak-side defenseman or my short-side defenseman and figure it out that way,” Nash added. “I think I’ve been getting chances here and there. It’s a matter of working for that space.”
There's little doubt that the Rangers will need Nash to get off the schneid offensively in order to win their first-round series.
In other Rangers news, defenseman Marc Staal is unlikely to play Friday, as he continues to deal with blurred vision. It's not clear if he will return during the playoffs.
