McDonald's hand surgery
By Tom Carpenter
New York Islanders defenseman Andrew McDonald is expected to miss the remainder of the playoffs due to his broken left hand, an injury sustained when he was hit by a slap shot during Tuesday's playoff game. He will undergo surgery to repair the damage and is expected to require six to eight weeks to recover, according to the New York Post's Brett Cyrgalis.
McDonald should be fine long before training camp starts, but the Islanders are going to miss his presence after he lead the Islanders in ice time during the regular season. The Isles lost Game 5 Thursday without his services and will have to fend off elimination by the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6 on Saturday.
