Pens' battered blue line
By Victoria Matiash
With Kris Letang (suspected broken toe) on the injured shelf another few days at least, the Pittsburgh Penguins suffered another -- more serious -- blow to their blue line. As reported by Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Paul Martin is out until the postseason is well underway.
"D Paul Martin has broken bone (believed wrist), needs surgery, will be out about 6 weeks, per Bylsma. So out for 1st round ..."
While Matt Niskanen is poised to take on a greater offensive role -- with the man-advantage, etc -- the Penguins may entertain the thought of acquiring a puck-moving defenseman ahead of the trade deadline. At the roster limit, the Pens would have to move another body out, however.
