Komisarek trade pending?
By Victoria Matiash
There are rumblings the Toronto Maple Leafs may be close to trading Mike Komisarek. TrueHockey.com's Andy Strickland reports the little-used defenseman is willing to waive his no-movement clause for the chance to compete again.
"Mike Komisarek gave #Leafs a list of 12 teams he'd accept a trade to but I'm told he'd pretty much accept a trade anywhere. Wants to play ..."
Now whether the Maple Leafs are able to convince another club to take on the expensive blueliner is a whole other story.
"Even if #Leafs took back 50% of Komisarek salary not sure teams are lining up to take that contract ... compliance buyout seems more likely ..."
On the upside, Komisarek is owed only $3.5 million next season while his cap hit sits at $4.5 million. It's tempting to suggest the possibility of a deal with the New York Islanders -- particularly since the 31-year-old grew up in the area.
For the Leafs, burying Komisarek's cap-hit in the minors isn't an option under the new CBA because of his NMC. (Sportsnet)
