Dallas Stars sniper Jamie Benn may be facing supplemental discipline from NHL safety czar Brendan Shanahan after cross-checking Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Jones on Thursday night, according to the Edmonton Journal's Jim Matheson.

There's no question the hit was dirty. But was it enough to earn Benn some time in street clothes? As Matheson quite rightly points out, the NHL has been rather lenient in terms of after-the-fact punishment during this lockout-shortened season.

Now that's not to say that Benn will walk away with nothing. He shouldn't, and he won't. But if Shanahan does hit him with anything more severe than a fine, don't expect the suspension to be longer than one game.
