O'Reilly deal's impact on Avs
By Doug McIntyre
Just because the Colorado Avalanche opted to match the aggressive offer sheet the Calgary Flames tendered to restricted free agent Ryan O'Reilly on Thursday doesn't mean the drama is over.
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the $6.5 O'Reilly will earn next season per terms of the deal is likely to impact other Avs players in arbitration cases, "perhaps teammate Matt Duchene among them," Dreger wrote on Twitter late last night.
Dreger also notes that O'Reilly is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2015-16 season, leading to what "could be another unsettling negotiation," between player and club.
