McGrattan's role with Flames

By Victoria Matiash

It appears Brian McGrattan is no longer a member of the Nashville Predators organization. According to Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald, the Predators have traded McGrattan to the Calgary Flames for AHL defenseman Joe Piskula.

The move (bit puzzling since the Flames could have snagged him off waivers this week) makes for a reunion of sorts; McGrattan accumulated 86 PIM through 34 games in his first tour of Calgary back in 2009-10. No official word yet on whether the organization intends to utilize McGrattan in Abbotsford or at the NHL level. But Sportsnet's John Shannon insists the 31-year-old tough guy suits coach Bob Hartley's style of play.

"... Make no mistake, BMcGrattan will be in Calgary not the (AHL). Team feels it needs to be tougher and harder to play against.#hartleyhockey ..."
