Ryder trade talk (update)

By Victoria Matiash

UPDATE: And voila.

As per TSN's Bob McKenzie, the Dallas Stars have traded Michael Ryder to the Montreal Canadiens for veteran forward Erik Cole. This will be Ryder's second stint with the Habs; he spent four seasons with Montreal from 2003 until 2008.

If the Dallas Stars are looking to make changes, they have more than a few moveable pieces with which to work. Nearly half the forwards on the current roster have contracts that are set to expire this summer. And Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News suggests Michael Ryder might be top of the list, as far as trade candidates are concerned.

"... I just think that with his contract up, with (Ray) Whitney having another year, with the kids pushing, and with the specter of (Jaromir) Jagr still there, Ryder is a candidate to move. Not sure on what he can bring, but he would be a good piece for an NHL team that needs scorers ..."

If outside of the playoff conversation at the start of April, the Stars could be fairly busy ahead of the trade deadline.
