Alfredsson trade talk

Here we go again. While the Ottawa Senators look to forge on without several key figures -- forward Jason Spezza, defenseman Erik Karlsson, and now goalie Craig Anderson -- murmurings regarding a potential Daniel Alfredsson trade are once more increasing in volume. But the odds of the Senators shipping their captain to a contender ahead of the trade deadline appear slim.
For his part, Alfredsson is "flattered" that other teams are reportedly interested, but focussed on winning with his current club.
"As of now, no," said Alfredsson when asked if he would go elsewhere (Ottawa Sun). "I don't think you never say never. Where we are in the playoff race, I hope we can continue and stay in here. That's definitely where my focus is. I'm not even thinking or worrying about anything else than this right now."
Keep in mind, the Senators are currently in position (seventh in the East) to compete in the postseason. Unless the club tumbles down the standings, GM Bryan Murray wouldn't even consider making such a move. Even then, the 40-year-old veteran himself would have the final say -- despite the absence of a no-trade clause. As discussed by Bob McKenzie on TSN 1050 radio this week, it's 100 percent Alfie's decision. There's little point in probing the matter further until we're nearer the end of March.
