Anderson injury
By Victoria Matiash
Watching Craig Anderson limp off the ice during Thursday's eventual 3-2 shootout win over the New York Rangers, fans of the Ottawa Senators had every right to fear the worst. But apparently the injury isn't as bad as all that.
According to several sources -- including the Ottawa Citizen -- Anderson is listed as day-to-day with a sprained right ankle. Players have been known to return within two to three weeks of suffering such an injury. After the game, the Sens No. 1 netminder himself offered reassurance of a hasty comeback, via twitter.
"My ankle's gonna be OK, be back ASAP ..."(Ottawa Sun)
Sportsnet's Ian Mendes summed up the prognosis nicely, considering the circumstances.
"I suppose given the potential for disaster ... this is best-case scenario."
In the meanwhile, Robin Lehner -- expected to be called up from Binghamton Friday -- is pegged to dress as back-up to Ben Bishop for Saturday's tilt with the Toronto Maple Leafs. With Bishop and Lehner on board, the Sens could be in much, much worse shape. Some NHL squads would arguably exchange their current one-two goaltending punch for the Sens' second- and third-in-command. Don't be surprised if Lehner gets a start or two in the next couple of weeks either. Last couple of appearances aside, Lehner has been very good (2.21 goals-against-average, .938 save percentage) in the AHL this season.
