Richards on hot seat?
By Victoria Matiash
With a losing record, new GM Jarmo Kekalainen in place, and other options out there (ie. Lindy Ruff), Todd Richards has just cause to be worried about losing his job. However, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch believes those running the show with the Columbus Blue Jackets are not ready to make a change at the head coaching position quite yet.
"... (Richards is) in an unstable situation and he realizes that, has admitted it publicly. He was hired as an assistant coach, promoted to interim coach and given the full-time job by the previous GM. He now has two new bosses (incl. new president of hockey ops John Davidson), each of whom would have the right to bring in their own guy if they so choose. This is strictly my opinion, not a reflection of anything I've been told from within the organization ... but I get the sense that as long as the Blue Jackets are seen as having a high compete level most nights, Richards could stick it out through the end of the season. For the most part, the Blue Jackets have been in almost every game despite being -- let's be honest here -- just not good enough. I'm not sure that can be fairly hung on Richards' neck at this point ..."
