Skinner concussed? (update)
By Victoria Matiash
UPDATE: The Carolina Hurricanes can collectively breathe a sigh of relief; Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports Jeff Skinner has an upper-body injury but "no concussion issues". The Hurricanes hope to have the young forward back in action later this week (Thursday, maybe?)
With forward Tim Brent also nursing an injury (lower-body), the Canes have recalled centers Riley Nash and Jeremy Welsh from the AHL Charlotte Checkers.
Forward Jeff Skinner is poised to miss at least one game -- Monday's contest in Montreal -- with what the Carolina Hurricanes are calling an "upper-body" injury. According to the Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer, the club has yet to determine whether the young star is concussed.
"... Skinner took some hard hits in Thursday's game against Toronto, once crashing helmet-first into the boards. He said he felt fine after the game and took part in practice Friday afternoon at PNC Arena, and the team had a day off Saturday. (Coach Kirk) Muller said Skinner came to Sunday's practice at Raleigh Center Ice but did not feel well. He said he did not know if Skinner, who missed 16 games last season because of a concussion, had any concussion-related issues. 'We'll evaluate him when we get back Tuesday,' Muller said ..."
Alexander suggests the Hurricanes may shift Jordan Staal to center on the second line in Skinner's absence, while bumping Jussi Jokinen up to play on the wing.
