UPDATE: The Dallas Stars have placed Kari Lehtonen on injured reserve. According to Mike Heika, Lehtonen will be eligible to return -- if healthy -- next Saturday against the San Jose Sharks. The Stars are scheduled to play two games between now and then.
Whether the Dallas Stars are forced to manage without Kari Lehtonen for a couple of games or a much longer stretch, the club isn't looking to outside the organization for goaltending help. The Dallas Morning New reports the Stars will instead rely on regular backup Richard Bachman and the 28-year-old Swede they signed in the summer.
"We got Cristopher Nilstorp to improve our goaltending depth in the organization, and we feel good about these two goalies," Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk said. "I’m not sure what Kari’s status is, but we feel confident in our goaltending throughout the organization."
Nilstorp has been good for the AHL Texas Stars this season -- particularly of late.
Scheduled to be re-evaluated Saturday, Lehtonen is listed as day-to-day with a groin injury. The Stars' No. 1 had to check out in the first period of Friday's contest with the Vancouver Canucks.
