Forward Nik Antropov and defenseman Zach Bogosian won't be the only regulars missing from the Winnipeg Jets' lineup to start the season. According to the Winnipeg Free Press, Antti Miettinen is sidelined with what the club is calling an "upper-body" injury (concussion?). There's no timetable yet on the winger's return.
"He's going to be out indefinitely," said Jets head coach Claude Noel Tuesday. "We're doing some further testing on some things on him to assess the situation. It's not day-to-day. He won't be a player for Saturday."
It's not day-to-day. That suggests Miettinen could be out a while.
The injury opens the door wider for junior call-up Mark Scheifele. With Miettinen on the shelf, the 19-year-old forward (OHL Barrie Colts) could compete on a line with Alex Burmistrov and Alexei Ponikarovsky. As it stands, Scheifele could stick beyond the five-NHL-game limit.
