Latest re: Olympics decision

By McIntyre/Matiash

UPDATE: The finishing line appears to be in sight. And those NHL players interested in participating in the 2014 Olympics should be pleased.

Sportsnet's John Shannon:

"... Been told while no meeting of IOC,IIHF,NHL,NHLPA has been set, the next time group gets together should cement NHLers at the Olympics ..."

Sounds like an agreement regarding NHL players' availability for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia, might not come next week, either.

Officials representing the league, players union, International Ice Hockey Federation and International Olympic Committee held productive discussions on the subject in New York in recent days, but NHL deputy commissioner Billy Daly confirmed Thursday that there wouldn't be "any resolution or decisions this week." Later, TSN's Darren Dreger suggested that the process could drag into March.

"A final decision on NHL Olympic participation could be weeks away," Dreger wrote on Twitter Thursday night.
