Leafs’ blueliner facing suspension
By Doug McIntyre
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Korbinian Holzer could be due for a date with Brendan Shanahan and the NHL's Department of Player Safety after drilling Philadelphia Flyers forward Tye McGinn into the boards with a crosscheck from behind.
The play, which you can see here, didn't go unpunished on the ice Monday night; it earned Holzer a five minute major boarding penalty and a game misconduct in the Leafs' 5-2 win.
But Yahoo!'s Harrison Mooney notes that Shanahan "tends to respond with a ban" when a vulnerable player attempting to stop close to the end boards is shoved from behind, and suggests that the league's disciplinarian will sit down Holzer for up to two games.
