White's future with Canadiens

2/8/2013

Not only did the boneheaded penalty Montreal Canadiens forward Ryan White took against the Buffalo Sabres Thursday cost his team the game, it could mark the end of White's tenure with the Habs.

With the Canadiens holding a 4-2 third-period lead, White jumped Sabres agitator Steve Ott after Ott's late hip check, earning a double minor. Buffalo scored on the ensuing power play and went on to win the game in a shootout.

It was the third time the season that White -- a healthy scratch for the Habs for three straight games before rejoining the lineup in Buffalo -- has cost his team due to indiscipline.

"It was unacceptable," said Canadiens coach Michel Therrien told Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette. The paper's Mike Boone had an even harsher critique, suggesting that "a player who gets into pointless fights and takes brain-dead penalties," shouldn't be part of the club's plans going forward.
