Miller's impact on Rangers

2/8/2013

Recent New York Rangers callup J.T. Miller scored twice in the Blueshirts' 4-1 win over the Islanders on Thursday, but the 19-year-old rookie's contribution to the club in the two games since he was summoned from AHL Hartford goes beyond goals, according to the New York Post's Brett Cyrgalis.

Miller, who helped the U.S. win gold last month at the World Junior Championship, "has now significantly raised the Rangers’ level of internal competition and lit a spark under a team that was struggling through some early-season doldrums," writes Cyrgalis.

But that doesn't necessarily mean that Miller is with the big club to stay. As we've seen with fellow Rangers rookie Chris Kreider -- who's struggled this season after playing a major role in last year's playoffs -- consistency can be elusive for young players.

“I try to temper myself,” Rangers coach John Tortorella says of his expectations regarding Miller. “Because I’m not sure where it goes in two weeks.”
