Gomez buyout update

January, 15, 2013
UPDATE: Scott Gomez could be set free in the next few days. He may not have to wait until the summer to be bought out by the Montreal Canadiens.

According to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, the NHL and NHLPA have reached an agreement in which the first of two allowed compliance buyouts can be enacted before the start of the season (Saturday). While the second can be used in the summer. However, the player's cap hit would remain the same for the rest of this season.

This alteration of rule could also benefit Wade Redden of the New York Rangers.
