The abbreviated 2012-13 season didn't go so well for the Colorado Avalanche. They have some of the league's top young players, but didn't seem to click very well; there were problems up front, on defense and in goal, and the entire locker room was called out by veteran G Jean-Sebastien Giguere late in the season for their lack of focus on the task at hand. On the bright side, their poor performance got them into the mix for the No. 1 pick, and they wound up winning that selection and using it on C Nathan MacKinnon. Of course, there are some who believe that they should've invested the pick on D, as big questions still face them in that group.
