UPDATE: David Booth is expected to miss four to six weeks with a groin strain.

The Vancouver Canucks may start the NHL regular season with another missing key piece of the second-line puzzle. In addition to Ryan Kesler (shoulder/wrist), David Booth is out with what appears to be a groin issue.

According to the Vancouver Province, Booth was scheduled to have an MRI Monday afternoon.

"He tweaked his groin a little bit yesterday and we're not quite sure how severe it is," coach Alain Vigneault said Monday.

The required MRI indicates he may have tweaked it more than a little bit.

If Booth is to miss time, Andrew Ebbett is favored to fill in with Mason Raymond and Zack Kassian on the second line. If not Ebbett, young Jordan Schroeder has a shot at winning a spot.

"As far as keeping tabs on players during the lockout, we weren't allowed to communicate," said Vigneault. "But I did speak to David yesterday. Sometimes that stuff happens on the ice."
