What Leafs' Bozak is worth

3/8/2013

The Anaheim Ducks' re-signing of star center Ryan Getzlaf on Friday could have implications well beyond Southern California.

Take impending unrestricted free agent forward Tyler Bozak of the Toronto Maple Leafs, for example. Bozak's reps could use the Getzlaf deal to help set the price for their client this summer, according to Leafs beat writer Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star.

McGran is convinced that Bozak will end up getting an annual salary somewhere between Getzlaf's $8.25 million per and the $5.5 millon current Toronto teammate Mikhail Grabovski receives as part of the five year pact he signed last year.

Frankly, that seems a little high for Bozak -- especially when you consider the contract another Leaf, Joffrey Lupul, inked in January. Lupul, who was also set to become an UFA at season's end, earns $5.25 million annually, and he has averaged .623 points per game during his NHL career compared to Bozak's .553.
